      • George Lewis appears at this boarding school for boys in the 1881 Census (the School is now a Grant Maintained day school in East Finchley). He is there with his brothers Alfred (15) and Ernest (12). George Pain (46) was the Master in charge. There was one Assistant Master in residence and one hundred and nine boarders. there were also a Sub-Matron and two Housemaids. The boys came from from not only Middlesex but a wide range of places including Yorkshire, Lancashire, Wales, East Anglia, Ireland, India, British Guiana and Cape Colony. There seemed to have been a separate building nearby called "The Hall" for the younger boys including Ernest.
